One to add to our ‘to read’ list, Elliot Page is currently working on a memoir titled Pageboy. Set to be published in 2023, the book is understood to be a candid account of his life, personal experiences and relationships. In anticipation of the yet to be released memoir, we're sharing everything we know about Pageboy so far.
What is Pageboy about?
Releasing through Flatiron Books, the publisher has said the book is an intimate account of Page’s life thus far, from Oscar nominations through to his transitioning a little over a year ago. “[The book] will delve into Page's relationship with his body, his experiences as one of the most famous trans people in the world, and will cover mental health, assault, love, relationships, sex, and the cesspool that Hollywood can be,” the publisher told the Associated Press (AP).
Page shared the news on his Instagram story, posting a screenshot of the AP article with a sticker exclaiming ‘hell yes!’ and alongside another saying ‘can’t wait.’ The actor first came out as transgender in December 2020, through a message posted across his social media channels. He has been embrace by a slew of media outlets, including Time Magazine, becoming the first transgender man to appear on a cover.
Since transitioning, Page has become a vocal advocate for trans youth, often utilising his platform as a public figure to advocate for greater support and awareness for youths who identify as trans.
How has Page's memoir been received thus far?
Bryn Clark, senior editor at Flatiron Books, praised the book in a statement, saying, “Pageboy completely knocked the wind out of me – Elliot’s story pieces together a complicated coming of age where he struggles to maintain his strong sense of self in the face of a society that slowly fractures and fragments anyone who doesn’t fit into a binary-driven world.”
Through his willingness to be candid and raw with his story, the Page memoir could become a groundbreaking piece of literature for generations to come, recalling one person’s plight to be completely themselves.
