The release of the Oscars nominations is one of the most hotly-anticipated days of the year. But for every film, actor, and production team that receives a nod in this prestigious list, there are countless others who don't. In 2025, the competition is rife, with movies Emilia Perez, The Brutalist, and Wicked leading the nominations charge. But what about those who didn't get a look in this awards season. From Angelina Jolie to Challengers, here's every surprising actor and film that was snubbed at the 2025 Oscars nominations.

Challengers

In our minds, Challengers was a cultural reset, but the tennis-centric love triangle wasn't enough to win over the Academy. Neither the film, nor director Luca Guadagnino and lead actress Zendaya received an acknowledgement for the 2025 Oscars. The widely-praised score — by duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross — was also left off the list.

Angelina Jolie

Despite wowing us with her portrayal of Maria Callas in Maria — which involved seven months of vocal training to nail her operatic tones — Angelina Jolie was noticeably absent from the Best Actress category.

Nicole Kidman

Another leading lady whose work went unacknowledged was Australian Nicole Kidman. Kidman has been praised for her vulnerability as Romy in Halina Reijn's Babygirl, however it wasn't enough to compete with other Best Actress contenders, including Mickey Madison and Demi Moore.

Sing Sing

Sing Sing took home several Gotham Independent Film awards, and also received a nod at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Despite this, the film was left off the Best Picture category, with only lead Colman Domingo nominated in the Best Actor category.

Selena Gomez

Emilia Perez might have swept the Oscars nominations with 13 across the board, but Selena Gomez missed out for the Best Supporting Actress category. This is particularly surprising, given Gomez nabbed two Golden Globes nominations, and took home the Best Actress award at Cannes.
