The highly anticipated ‘true crime’ comedy, Steve Martin's Only Murders in the Building has just landed, and the series premiered its first three episodes on Disney+ on Tuesday night, just in time for another long night in lockdown. Bust open the wine and settle in for an untrue true crime bonanza set in an affluent Upper West Side apartment building.
With rave reviews hitting the internet shortly after its release, here is everything you need to know about the new series.
The plot of Only Murders in the Building
Mabel, Charles, and Oliver are three strangers with little in common save for their love of true crime podcasts. After being evacuated from their waspy Upper West Side New York City apartment building, and when a mysterious death occurs in the building, they decide to start a true-crime podcast of their own. With the death ruled a suicide, the trio feel differently, and set out to uncover what happened. We haven't been this keen for a whodunnit since The Undoing.
The cast
The all-star cast is what (presumably) drew folks to watch the new series, with Selena Gomez starring as Mabel, Steve Martin as Charles, and Martin Short as Oliver. The series was created by Martin himself, alongside actor, producer and writer, John Hoffman. Other notable cameos include Jamie Lynch and Sting (!).
The trailer
If you're a try before you buy kind of person, you can watch the trailer, below, where we are taken on a sprawling recap of the events that lead the three to start a podcast together, intercepted with comedic moments from Martin along the way. If you're up for another waspy, New York City based whodunnit with plenty of twists and turns, you can stream the first three episodes on Hulu for US readers and Disney+ for those tuning in from Australia.
