The New Year’s Eve outfits the ‘RUSSH’ editors are eyeing off this year

I won't bore you with commentary on how quickly this year has passed (like a bullet) or how right now is the perfect time to take stock (vegetable, please). Let's just skip right ahead to the part where we discuss the outfits we're wearing on New Year's Eve as though this is a friendly group chat. Naturally, your outfit depends on your plans. Are you committed to roughing it at a festival or have you scheduled a laid back afternoon with your closest pals? Is quiet drinks on a rooftop your thing? Or maybe you plan to purge the past year by sweating it out on the dance floor. In any case, if you're in need of inspiration around what to wear on New Year's Eve, below the RUSSH editors share the outfits they're planning to wear while ringing in the New Year.

Hasn’t it just been a year? Whilst undecided if I will be celebrating out or at home, I still maintain it’s a wonderful excuse to dress up, the living room dance floor deserves as much respect as anywhere else and actively encourages heels as the travel distance is hardly very long. The Aurora Pump is top of my list as I will never grow out of black studded leather, perhaps worn with the constellation dress for a bit of fireworks inspired sparkle? If I’ve been good this year perhaps Father Christmas will leave this Saint Laurent gown in my stocking with some Sener Besim Diamond Thread Earrings so I can glide into the new year with ultimate elegance.

New Year's Eve will be laid back for me this year and I plan on staying in, watching a movie with some ice cream and seeing in the new year in comfort. Having said that, earlier in the day there will be plenty of time to celebrate with company at a picnic lunch in the park to celebrate the year that was. I’ll be wearing FAITHFULL’s Freja Playsuit Wine Stripe with these A.EMERY Pae leather sandals and my Ray Bans. Lastly, my Dragon Diffusion Santa Croce Big Bag will be carrying everything I need for the afternoon.

I will be out one way or another celebrating the end of what has been, one of the best years of my life. And of course, in style. This Christopher Esber Photon Crochet Skirt is perfect for New Years Eve, as well as any occasion, so this is definitely the base of the outfit I would love to wear. I got this top from Beare Park yesterday, which I think would go so beautifully with it. For shoes, I’m thinking of some black kitten heels for Gucci, these ones specifically as they have a little shimmer of gold in the straps. Or these Saint Laurent pumps, they are lethal, too good. For my bag, I don’t want to carry too much, so my micro Charles and Keith bag is coming with me. It is adorable.

This year, we’re spending New Year’s Eve at our friends’ place. They have a pool and we’ll be having a BBQ, so the dress code will be more swimwear than anything else. I have a pink bikini from Form & Fold that I’ll wear as it’s super supportive but also chic! I’m a 10F, so it’s tricky to find swimwear. But this set is perfect. When the sun goes down, I’m going to throw over one of my beach cover-ups, probably this crochet dress from Venroy. If Santa has been reading my Christmas list, he’ll know these Celine sandals are at the top. With any luck, I’ll be able to wear those. I normally wear cat-eye sunglasses but I’ll swap them out for a bigger pair that cover more of my face if I’m going to be in the sun for a long time. I have these Edera ones. Finally, everything is going into my Arm of Eve beach bag. Happy New Year indeed!

I will be having a very special New Year’s Eve in Paris with my partner this year. A few of our friends will be joining us from London for a dinner party and if we are lucky it will snow so of course, something fabulous but warm is needed. I’m going to wear these satin mules, they have been my go-to this season as the heel is subtle and the shape flattering. This Harris Tapper Mira dress was what I hoped to pair with them but alas, I didn’t organise myself in time. I think I will opt for tights, maybe in red, with this skirt and simple black tank. I am torn between two coats to complete the look, likely it will be this one here

This New Year’s Eve, I’m opting for a quieter occasion with my closest friends. The plan is to host an intimate – but appropriately boujee – dinner party and drinks at my home, so the dress code will need to match the environment. Chic enough to warrant the party label, but not so OTT that it would look out of place if I decide to serve dessert around the pool and dip my toe in while I’m at it. In a dream world, I would be traipsing around in this sparkly, embroidered tulle dress from Prada, paired with my new, favourite Bottega Veneta mules. But more practically, I have been gravitating towards the Halcyon dress from SIR – light and airy to make hosting easy but still a piece to remember. I’m going to accessorise with these statement earrings from Anna Rossi and will likely walk around barefoot all night.

I never plan New Year’s Eve until the last minute, which I actually love. I could be dancing the night away or eating a burger and fries on the couch watching Die Hard with a few friends (a bit of a tradition). A festive outfit and bucketfuls of champagne are the only constants in all NYE scenarios. This Vaquera dress has been at the top of my wishlist for some time so maybe Santa will be nice to me and make all my Christmas dreams come true. I’m also lusting after some new ‘party but wearable’ shoes and have my sights set on these Balenciagas, and these Dries Van Noten babies. This J.W. Anderson purse is actually the cutest thing I’ve ever seen so I might need that too, also whilst we are at it let’s throw in these Loewe glasses, which are only slightly tinted so I could still wear them indoors? Finally, rounding the whole outfit out with this Panconesi collar

Too much? Or just enough?

My New Year’s plans are still up in the air (aren’t they always?) but I know they will involve sunshine and champagne, one way or another. I’m obsessed with everything from Christopher Esber’s new drop, but this lace blue top in particular has caught my eye. I think it would look cute dressed down with these relaxed low-rise pants by St Agni, or maybe this satin mini skirt by Maggie Marilyn. In terms of accessories, I’m keeping things simple with my trusty A.Emery Kinto thongs. I’ve also got my eye on these earrings by Mejuri — I love the mixed metal look.

My New Year's Eve plans are low-key — a swim, dinner at home with my husband, Champagne (obviously) and the 9pm fireworks as that's all my hometown offers. But I do like to feel good and start 2025 on the right foot, you know? I'm a big fan of one-and-done dresses, especially this one from Dissh. It's loose, easy to throw on over swimmers and I love the fact it's sheer. I also saw this Paris Georgia slip in Incu the other day and almost bought it. More sheer, and the print is fun without being too loud or bright. Also, it would work equally well by the beach or out for dinner. And if we’re getting really aspirational, I can absolutely see myself in this floaty white Khaite on the couch with a glass of Ruinart and some chips (the good kind). Also, someone with more plans than me please buy and wear this Khaite dream dress — it’s 40% off!

I will spend New Year's Eve with friends and my partner sharing a meal on the balcony at 10 William St in Sydney. If we stand atop our chairs we might catch a glimpse of the pastel orbs overhead Sydney Harbour when the clock strikes 12. As always, I love to mix shopping new with old or secondhand pieces so I may treat myself to an accessory for the occasion from my favourite preloved designer shop The Frock Exchange. I love this Albus Lumen dress, it’s like a firework in itself. This Maggie Marilyn dress also has my eye - I love the many buttons for a formal or more casual look . And I will be wearing these shoes from Chanel for a bit of dancing - no doubt the aux cord will be hot property. And because no outfit is complete without sunglasses, I’m currently lusting after these Bottega Veneta beauties.
