After last week's impressive announcement from Netflix – revealing the streaming platforms plans to release a new film every week in 2021 – we were unsure if things could really get much better. Once again proving that they refuse to disappoint, the entertainment giant has shared its line-up of February 2021 releases, and we recommend sitting down (on your couch, of course) to digest it all.
The main event of the Netflix February 2021 releases, is of course Zendaya and John David Washington's highly-anticipated and ultra-buzzy film, Malcom & Marie; written and directed by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The film follows the tale of a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) who return home from their film’s premiere to await the critical notices. The film reportedly sparked an intense bidding war following its virtual premiere at the 2020 Toronto Film Festival, which resulted in Netflix snatching up the solipsistic black and white film for north of $30 million USD.
Also on the list is the third and final instalment of Netflix's hit teen-film franchise, To All The Boys: Always and Forever. While we have to admit this is not the type of entertainment content we would normally indulge in, there's something deeply relaxing about the simplicity of a teenage love story. Although not quite the calibre of the masterpiece, 10 Things I Hate About You, (which is also available to re-watch if you're feeling lovestruck this Valentine's Day), this original film from Netflix ticks all the boxes for easy and light watching.
Steering away from romance and into true crime, the streaming platform is bringing us another documentary from the brilliant minds behind the extremely successful Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. Director, producer and true-crime veteran, Joe Berlinger's latest project focuses on the mysterious disappearance of student Elisa Lam in 2013; titled Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. The four-episode series will provide a deep-dive into the extremely bizarre case and the viral footage of Lam's last moments which accompanied it. While not for the faint hearted, this new release is sure to impress crime buffs the world over.
From moving original features, to classic rom-coms we can't help but watch time and time again, Netflix's latest releases lay the foundations of the ultimate binge-watching session. Keep scrolling for the full list of new releases you'll find on Netflix in February 2021.
