It-girl Sydney Sweeney is set to star alongside musician Halsey in Bron Studios’ new film, National Anthem. The directorial debut of Tony Tost, the film marks Halsey’s first major on-screen theatrical role and will be produced alongside Page Fifty-Four pictures in addition to Bron Studios.
What is National Anthem about?
National Anthem revolves around the hunt for a valuable, rare Lakota Native American Ghost shirt, with some hunting for fortune and others for personal freedom. Some simply want the shirt to be returned to its home. It will highlight how those marginalised in the community will no longer be ignore and all must learn to survive.
Who else is starring in National Anthem?
Alongside Sweeney and Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Toby Huss, Harriet Sansom Harris and Derek Hinkey are set to feature in National Anthem in what will also be Hinkey’s on-screen debut. Page Fifty-Four’s Alex Saks and Bron Studios’ Aaron Gilbert are producing the film, with Creative Wealth Media’s Jason Cloth an executive producer. Native American activist Marcus RedThunder will serve as a consultant.
Have Halsey and Sydney Sweeney previously collaborated?
National Anthem is the second collaboration to be announced between Sweeney and Halsey. In February 2021, HBO Max began to develop The Player’s Table, a television adaptation of Jessica Goodman’s novel They Wish They Were Us, starring Sweeney and Halsey. The pair met on the set of Halsey’s Graveyard music video.
Both have had a busy start to the new year, with Sweeney’s meteoric rise continuing to flourish thanks to her roles in Euphoria and off the back of last year’s White Lotus. Halsey has recently announced their summer 2022 tour off the back of their fourth album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, along with the newest release of their beauty range, About Face.
