2025 might still be in its infancy, but it’s already seen a new trend enter fashion’s lexicon. ‘Moto boho’ is the latest aesthetic to enter the sartorial spotlight, striking the balance between rugged rebelliousness of biker culture with free-spirited bohemian style. In practice, the trend looks like free-flowing skirts and sheer layers, paired with leather handbags, moto boots, and jackets.

While fashionable juxtapositions like these might be relatively new to this decade, the phenomenon has done the rounds before. Cast your minds back to the early aughts, and it girls like the Olsen twins were already making a strong case for throwing a roughed up leather jacket over your favourite slip dress.

These days, the revival is owing to a few major brands. For the Autumn Winter 24 season, Chemena Kamali assembled a front row of spectators clad in platform wedge heels as they watched her debut collection for Chloé, which featured similarly romantic styles floating down the runway. Rabanne, Isabel Marant, and Etro have each made a similar case for a new iteration of the boho chic trend and, long before them, Sarah Burton was renowned for her edgy-meets-delicate work at the helm of Alexander McQueen.

So why is this nostalgic aesthetic reigning supreme once again? We'd guess a large part of the moto boho supremacy is thanks to nostalgia. We're no stranger to reviving 2000s-era fashion and beauty trends — from juicy couture tracksuits to baguette bags -- so its no surprise that boho chic would be next.  As for the edgy twist to the boho du jour, this could have to do with popular culture. Many have pointed out that, while a boho resurgence has been bubbling away for years now, it wasn't until Brat summer emerged — courtesy of ultimate Brat Charli XCX — that the 'moto' component entered the picture. The appeal, then, lies in the contradictions — and surprising compatibility — of these two seemingly opposing modes of dressing.
