Netflix has released the trailer for Mo, an upcoming A24-produced comedy series from Mo Amer and Ramy Youssef, both executively producing the series. A reunion between Youssef and A24 after his work on Ramy, it arrives on the streaming platform later this month and examines Amer’s experiences as a Palestinian refugee in Texas.
What is the plot of Mo?
In the series, we find protagonist Mo Najjar (Amer) is living between two cultures, three languages and bureaucratic rigmarole as a Palestinian refugee on the path to American citizenship. His family, including a spiritual mother, sister and older brother, flee to Houston, Texas, resulting in Mo learning to adapt to a new world, yet facing many setback in his life.
In the film, we see Teresa Ruiz cast as Mo’s girlfriend, Maria, Farah Bsieso as Mother, Yusra Najjar, and Omar Elba as Sameer Najjar, Mo’s older brother who ha social anxiety. Tobe Nwigwe portrays Nick, Mo’s oldest and cheekiest friend. You can watch the trailer below.

Youssef has previously spoken of his approach to making television rather than film, saying he approaches multi-episode series’ as having a “short film feel” and that you need to focus on one character at a time in order to get to know the nuances of the work.
“We don’t want to be doing the TV thing where every episode is A-story, B-story, C-story, where things start to feel really crammed and it starts to feel like nothing is really getting its air and it feels very formulaic,” said Youssef.
When does the Mo Amer A24 series premiere on Netflix?
We are in luck as Mo is releasing on Netflix on August 24, just over two weeks away. And, once you have predictably binged the series, you will soon find Youssef in Poor Things alongside Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe.
