Up until Paris Fashion Week's Spring Summer 2022 season, we had all managed to sit comfortably in our high waisted trousers and the fact that this would be our wardrobe's final form. Yes, we had found the perfect intersection between style, ease and utility and couldn't see this altering. But in the wings of Y2K's resurgence hung Miuccia Prada, perfectly poised to drop a bomb and with it, usher in the return of not just low rise, but the low rise mini.
Now, in the early months of 2022, the low rise mini, more specifically that cropped and pleated Miu Miu skirt set is an ensemble we just can't quit — and nor would we want to. Whether it's belted or joined by that cropped cable knit Miu Miu sweater, it's been pure joy to see a once exclusive silhouette recontextualised into our current moment, where all bodies are celebrated and all can be sexy in a two-piece as daring and subversive as this one. What's more is we've learned that the skirt set holds the power to stir up cultural debate, from those unwilling to embrace this refreshing early-aughts lens on fashion to other conversations that are simply far too daft to warrant a mention.
All we know is that the Miu Miu skirt set is being passed around like a newborn baby and now my only question is, when will it be my turn?
