“An antidote to meaningless novelty, the collection examines fundamental realities of dress, the needs and wants of people from their clothes. It is an amplification of actuality – a focus on reality.”
Thus proclaims Miu Miu of its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, tapping into a post-lockdown thirst for sexiness and feeling at ones most desirable. An interpolation of typical brand staples, the collection felt a gust of fresh air in a world needing to breathe. It spawned the ‘it girl’ set of the season, after all.
Lensed by Mia Rankin and styled by Charlotte Agnew, model Gabriella Brooks embodies the Miu Miu girl: Referential, intuitive, and not afraid to embrace her figure and likeness. She flirts with lighting and remains the focal point, clad in frayed cargo mini-skirts and ab-baring cropped shirts.

Miu Miu describes the collection as “a reaction to and reflection of reality, an economy, a freshness found in iterations of eternal, universal garments.” It used already existing garments to create the new, reinventing classic silhouettes with a contemporary edge. Foundations stem from staple pieces – trousers, blazers, shirts yet a new proportion is found through the tailoring of each piece, altering their relationship with the body.

Shirts are carved out to reveal body, trousers into miniskirts, evoking a sense of “look, but don’t touch.” Raw edges and exposed elements of construction convey the spontaneity of design, cultivating and idea of what is typically left unseen has its day.
“Strange is not strange anymore,” said Miuccia Prada of the collection, after it having walked the runway. It was the kind of simple collection for a world no longer so simple. It tapped into post-lockdown mentality of bringing sexy back, casual attire a thing of the past; the drama amped up.
