Guillermo del Toro eyes Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield for his adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’

Mia Goth in talks to join Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein'.

With every new project announcement, it appears that Mia Goth is more and more aptly named. The actress has fast become Hollywood's favourite scream queen, starring in Ti West's acclaimed trilogy (Pearl,  X, and the still-in-production MaXXXine), as well as Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool. But she's now rumoured to be in discussions with Mexican filmmaker and author Guillermo del Toro to star in his much-anticipated gothic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for Netflix alongside Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield.

What do we know so far?

Del Toro is set to write and direct the live-action adaptation based on English author Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel. It remains to be seen how faithful the Oscar-winning director intends to be to the original book's source material (his Best Picture winner The Shape Of Water was originally intended to be an interpretation of Beauty and the Beast if that's anything to go by). However, Goth is said to be in talks to play the role of Doctor Frankenstein’s love interest.

Days out from his Best Animated Picture Oscar win for his dark take on Pinocchio, Del Toro is still in very early stages of scriptwriting for the new production, which he's been working on for several years already. However, he's reportedly met with Goth amongst several other notable actors (namely Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield) to discuss bringing them on board as part of the cast.

Isaac has also been making waves this week as he's in talks to portray a young Kurt Vonnegut in the new TV series Helltown.

When will it be released?

Del Toro is still in very early stages of scriptwriting, production and casting for the Frankenstein adaptation, so there's no official timelines to report just yet from him or Netflix. We'll keep you updated as we know more, but we're excited to see how this one plays out.
