The perfect marriage between considered design, luxury fabrics and sustainability is a balance that is hard to strike. For some brands however, this formula is simply innate. Such is the case for New Zealand-based label, Marle; who has just released its autumn 2021 collection titled Writing You Now.
Since its inception, Marle has established a synonymous aesthetic in the innate responsibility to design clothing that holds an enduring quality. Founder Juliet Souter prides herself on creating collections that are consistent in style, palette and nature; while continuing to practice the sustainable craftsmanship that underpins her brand. Taking inspiration from the coastal surroundings of her hometown of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Souter founded Marle with a single mission; to design thoughtful, low-impact, feminine clothing that women feel both comfortable and stylish in, whilst causing no unnecessary harm to the planet.
The brand's latest creations are no exception. Writing You Now is an homage to several of the Marle staples. A revisiting of favoured styles from collections gone by, these pieces intertwine seamlessly with the introduction of new signature styles; in an earthy palette of khaki, camel and tan. Although there is some return to the classics, what is new to the autumn collection is the introduction of Supima Cotton. Holding a higher quality than standard cotton, it has an extra long staple fibre which gives superior strength and softness.
In addition to the luxurious addition of Supima Cotton, Writing You Now, has several other worthy touch points; Scouter exploring new subtle, directional design accents with every piece. Sashiko quilting, a traditional Japanese practice of finishing and mending and patching garments, shines through in the Hardy Dress. While the use of silk in the Erika top evokes a femininity and effortless transition from day-to-night. In line with Souter's commitment to sustainability, each material used throughout all of the Marle collections is entirely biodegradable.
