More than 20 years have passed since Sofia Coppola stepped out of her fathers shadow and adapted Jeffrey Eugenides dreamy yet subdued classic The Virgin Suicides. All this time later the devastating story of the Lisbon sisters lingers on - in all its pastel-tinged mystery - in our minds and now apparently in our style too? As it turns out, fashions favourite New Yorker (Marc Jacobs of course!) has turned to this cult 90s film for inspiration in his popular 'Heaven' line.

How do you incorporate The Virgin Suicides into a clothing line, you ask? Well, Marc Jacobs has turned to 90s and Y2K style codes. This means larger than life graphics and film stills stretched across A-line midi skirts, taupe peter pan collared blouses and Jean Paul Gaultier-esque mesh long sleeves. Each piece references Lux Lisbon, or rather a young Kirsten Dunst, either splayed out on a football field or toying with a candied-apple like the stone cold fox she is.

As for the rest of the collection? Marc Jacobs has released a slew of other The Virgin Suicides inspired pieces. Most notably, the highly covetable, "Just Like Life" baby tee, where $18 of every one sold will be funnelled into the The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center - an organisation committed to supporting the LGBTIQA+ community in New York City.

You'll also find a silver-chained cross body bag that features silver "Heaven" hardware with stars and safety pin charms, as well as a deep green leather blazer lined with film stills, plus a black hoodie with the film's signature handwriting-styled font. Also, for those located in Los Angeles, Heaven's store on Fairfax Avenue is set to host a special exhibit showcasing The Virgin Suicides memorabilia.
So tap into your suburban teenage angst and head over to Marc Jacob's website, where you can shop the Heaven by Marc Jacobs Fall 2021 collection now through to November.
