2024 is almost here. Shocking, we know. But with a new year comes fresh eyes, fresh perspectives and a fresh take on beauty trends, especially when it comes to makeup.
2023 was a banner year for beauty. We lived through glazed donut skin, glazed donut nails, latte beauty, strawberry beauty, skinny brows and aura blush. But what does 2024 have in store?
We don't have a crystal ball, but we do have good instincts, our SS24 fashion week catalogue and a late night TikTok scrolling habit, which puts us in good stead to predict the biggest makeup trends of 2024. From witchy beauty to ballerina softness, scroll on to read.
High Shine
Lean into a brave new world of beauty with high shine, chrome-like finishes and plenty of glitter. Whether futuristic or more creature-of-the-night, we're predicting lots of light-reflecting metallics in the future. Interested? Take notes from the Aaron Esh SS24 runway show, and the just-launched CHANEL Les Symboles Oversized Illuminating Powder in White Pearl.

Ballet-Core
Silk bows, sleek buns, a youthful flush... ballet beauty has already infiltrated the zeitgeist and we can't see it going anywhere any time soon. Cherubic and girly, look towards products with cool pink undertones and plenty of sheen. Expect to see other, similar micro-trends crop up as well: prairie girl, figure skater girl, renaissance girl... Sandy Liang is the blueprint!

Witchy Beauty
Wednesday Adams walked so the rest of us with a soft spot for gothic beauty could run. Spurred by creative artists like Isamaya Ffrench and Marcel Gutierrez, freakish, gothic details are set to become slightly more mainstream. Dip your toes by way of spiky lashes and smudgy liner, or go all out with black lipstick.

Klein Blue
Blame it on Daniel Lee's bright new Burberry, but we're predicting Yves Klein blue might just become the hue of the season (yes, even where beauty is concerned). French makeup artist Violette recently released a Klein-inspired blue eye pigment, and it's primed to take over our glazed-everything manicure obsession. You heard it here first.

Bordeaux Girl Beauty
2023 gave us strawberry girls, tomato girls, cherry girls... in 2024 we're manifesting Bordeaux beauty. Think deep blue-red across the cheeks, lips and nails.

Powdered Pastels
If you prefer a more subdued approach, reach for soft powdery pastels in 2024. With sky blue, apricot, pistachio and lavender all featuring on the SS24 runways, it affords an easy makeup update without too much fuss. Go matte to keep it modern.
