From the creative mind of Virgil Abloh - meet the LV Trainer Upcycling collection.
One of the most exciting launches from Louis Vuitton mens, the newest collection designed by Men's artistic director Abloh is a selection of sneakers that draw from both new and old.
This unique collection takes creative and design inspiration from the very first LV Trainer, the debut design unveiled during Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh’s first Spring-Summer show for Louis Vuitton in 2018. But as for construction, Louis Vuitton and Abloh have been inspired by new innovation and "upcycling ideology".
These new shoes are not titled the Upcycling Collection for just any old reason. These sneakers are crafted using existing materials, ostensibly 'upcycling' fabrics and textiles that may have ordinarily had a use. The original LV Trainers from 2019 have been disassembled and then reconstructed in a new way - one that is neither the same nor entirely distinct from the original design. This new design innovation is one that is adding the House's portfolio of sustainable design and production techniques.
As with the original design, the new LV Trainer Upcycling is crafted in supple calfskin and suede. Its tie-dye coloured laces have been revamped. The low-top iteration comes in new hues, five bright colour, each with a padded collar. This iconic shoe features an “LV Upcycling” edging on the back, making it distinct from any other sneaker created by the House. The Louis Vuitton signature appears on the side and the monogram flowers are featured on the sole. These sneakers are also marked with a fluorescent tag on the right foot.
In every detail, Louis Vuitton demonstrates the calibre of its careful craftsmanship. Interestingly, each pair comes with assembly instructions for centring or cutting and the excess stitching has been left attached; features that allows future owners to customise their pair if they should so wish.
The new LV Trainer Upcycling collection will be available in select Louis Vuitton boutiques from January 22 2021.
