For years, Lucia Pica has been at the helm of Chanel Beauty as their lead makeup artist and head of makeup and colour design for the luxury beauty conglomerate. Now, Byredo is tapping her talent by appointing Pica as creative image and makeup partner to develop the brands ever-growing makeup line and work on the next phase of its colour cosmetics line.
Pica is set to work closely with Byredo founder Ben Gorham and the brand's product marketing team on plans and new ideas, while lending her expertise around colour to the brand.
“Makeup is the first Byredo category that I don’t use personally, so I value a collaborator highly for their subjective perspective, and Lucia’s work is exceptional. The way she portrays people through makeup — their empowerment but also their vulnerability, their demeanour — is beautiful, and resonates with what I hope we can attain at Byredo. Our ambitions for makeup are real,” Gorham said in a press release.
Pica has over two decades of experience as a makeup artist, and will offer her signature style to the swiftly evolving beauty and leather brand, with the goal to bring notoriety and a signature look to the house.
“There is such elegance to Byredo — an interesting, sharp coolness. I am excited to work with Ben to translate that essence into the makeup so that people recognize the sensibility the instant they see it,” Pica stated in a press release. “I imagine the Byredo person as someone completely at ease with their emotions. And with color, there has to be a story — poetry, depth. Instilling that sensibility into the makeup feels like the right project for me.” She continued.
Pica left Chanel a few motnhs ago, after ending her six-year tenure with the brand. Her first makeup collection with Byredo will be launched this year. Stay tuned for more.
