LA woman and Chanel muse Lily-Rose Depp is a lady on the go. That much is clear in Chanel's 22 bag campaign film, a tongue-in-cheek romp that trails a day in the life of the 22-year-old.
Stepping into the role of a Hollywood femme fatale, Depp presents the Chanel 22 bag, a style crafted by Virginie Viard and named after the year it was designed. Arriving in a monochrome palette the 22 bag leans into Chanel codes with its signature diamond quilting, leather strands interlaced with that metal chain, resulting in a roomy and functional bag that will see you through brunch to dinner.
Shot in black and white by iconic photography duo Inez & Vinoodh, the two drew on Depp's current place of residence, leaning into Hollywood motifs particularly on screen darling Veronica Lake for the shoot. Vignettes of Lily-Rose Depp roll in; in the bath, poolside, rollerblading on her parquet floors and chasing the sun as it sets over the cityscape of Los Angeles. These are interspersed with Pop Art-adjacent speech bubbles and a sultry voice over from Depp that oscillates between English and French. The 22 bag wanders in and out of focus, expertly arranged by Euphoria stylist Heidi Bivens.
“These images are, for me, an ode to the marriage between my identities as a Parisian and a Los Angeleno," says Depp. "I’ve known Inez & Vinoodh for a few years now and so, knowing me, I think they did a beautiful job at creating scenes and scenarios that help my personality shine through. They were also very inspired by Veronica Lake for the shoot, someone who's inspired me my whole life," she continued.
In late March we were treated to outtakes of the Chanel shoot for its 22 bag. Margaret Qualley and Whitney Peak also starred in their own individual films set in Palm Springs and New York City respectively. A bag that's certain to reach icon status, mirroring the women who wear it.
