Getting a prequel to Legally Blonde – what, like it's hard? The film that quintessentially carried the 2000's cinematic universe—and almost made us think we should to go to law school—is getting a prequel.
While it won't be a movie, Elle is the prequel TV series to Legally Blonde that will show us Elle Woods' early life and experiences that shaped her to the Harvard Law student that we know and love.
Pull out your Chihuahuas and your best pink pieces, but definitely not your last season Prada shoes – because here is everything you're going to need to know about Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde prequel Elle.

Who will be cast in the Legally Blonde prequel, Elle?
According to Vanity Fair, there's currently an open casting call for the young version of Elle Woods. Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram to share the news, writing, “Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON!”
“With our friends @primevideo we’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio… I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favorite Gemini vegetarian!”
And while exactly who will score the role remains to be seen, we certainly have some suggestions up our sleeve...
Sabrina Carpenter

It goes without saying that Sabrina Carpenter—aka the sassy pop girl of the moment—would make a perfect Elle Woods. Beyond her tiny stature and bright blonde hair, the singer is also an accomplished actress, having had her start on Disney Channel. Plus, like Elle, Sabrina isn't afraid of some seriously cute—and pink—outfits.
Sydney Sweeney

Another frontrunner in our minds when it comes to who should play Elle is Sydney Sweeney. The actress has already proven herself more than capable of portraying the trials and tribulations of a high schooler as Cassie, in Euphoria. Plus, she perfectly embodied Elle's bold creativity as Bea in Anyone But You.
Ava Phillipe

Who better to play Elle than Reese Witherspoon's own look-a-like daughter, Ava Phillipe? We'll admit, it's unlikely that the 25-year-old will launch an acting career now, but we've also never seen a mother and daughter duo who look more alike than them, so never say never.
Reneé Rapp

While Reneé Rapp appears to have left acting behind in pursuit of her music career, we'd pay to see her take on this iconic role.
After falling in love with her as Regina George in Mean Girls and Leighton in The Sex Lives Of College Girls, we just know she'd nail Elle's self-assuredness—and bonus points if the show included a few musical numbers, too!
When will Elle be released?
There is no official release date for the TV series Elle as of yet, but we'll keep you updated when we know more.
Where can I watch Elle?
Elle will be a TV series that you can watch on Amazon Prime, revealed during the 2024 Amazon Upfront Presentation by Elle Woods herself, Reese Witherspoon. Produced by Amazon Prime and Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine, we can expect Reese Witherspoon will have quite the direction in the show as Executive Producer. Alongside Witherspoon in Executive Producing is Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt.
What will Elle be about?
As a prequel, Witherspoon stated "fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?".
