Think of the most stylish Australian you know. Is it Lee Lin Chin? The former SBS newsreader has long maintained a reputation as, if not the most fashionable figure in the country, then easily the best-dressed on TV. RUSSH even paid homage to her style for our Taste issue. Well, the good news is if you've ever eyed off her collection of Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons with envy, you'll soon have an opportunity to rifle through it. A selection of Lee Lin Chin's wardrobe is going up for auction – run don't walk.
From March 19, Shapiro Auctioneers will be holding a viewing of the collection, before it's auctioned off online at 6pm, Monday 25 March 2024.
The sale predominantly features Japanese designers such as Undercover, Issey Miyake and Matsuda Yukio Kobayashi, as well as those previously mentioned. You'll also find unique pieces like a Vivienne Westwood pencil skirt, Margaret Howell brogues and a Jean Paul Gaultier umbrella thrown into the mix.
Most importantly, the price estimates are almost too good to be true. A khaki military-inspired skirt from Junya Watanabe's Fall 2006 collection for Comme des Garçons is listed at a quarter of the price it sold recently on 1stDibs for.
Other highlights include an embroidered skirt with sheer boning from Comme des Garçons Spring 2004, a distressed mohair knit from the Fall 2004 collection that followed, and a vintage slashed plaid zip-up jacket from Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garçons expected to fetch $500 despite being listed on other resale platforms for more than double the prize.
Forget the SSENSE sale, this is where you'll find your fashion bargain of the year.
So if you love Japanese designers, mark the date down in your calendars and don't forget to register to bid. You can peruse the wardrobe auction of Lee Lin Chin now at the Shapiro Auctioneers' website. Godspeed.
