Late last year, news emerged that legendary Twin Peaks director, David Lynch was partnering with streaming giant Netflix; for a new miniseries titled Wisteria. Since the initial announcement, Lynch has remained relatively tight-lipped about the project; true to his cagey style of course. The only glimpse of any type of clue coming courtesy of a suspicious Instagram post from Twin Peaks star and longtime Lynch collaborator Kyle MacLachlan. Now, Big Little Lies star Laura Dern has seemingly confirmed that we can expect big things from David Lynch to come.
Speaking in a recent interview, Dern teased fans with an extremely cryptic quote about Lynch's upcoming projects, sharing that; “I think fans should expect more and more radical, boundary-less art from David Lynch. And I know it will make my life better.” I mean, c'mon Laura – we need more than that!
It may seem like Dern has sold us short on this tidbit, but given that she's a pretty reliable source on the matter (starring in Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart), maybe the director is keeping his cards close even with his most trusted of friends. Or at least, that's the narrative we continue to tell ourselves... Confirming the fact that she knows just as little as we do, Dern went on to share; “I have no idea what it's going to be... It’s not like I’m trying to hide it — he tells no one until he’s making it. It’s what I love about him.”
The only thing we can draw comfort from, is that in Dern's words, she revealed the highly-acclaimed director is "always making art," so we can rest assured that there will be no shortage of creative content for us to revel in, in the near future.
“I would say there’s a twinkle in his eye and he’s up to something radical and fantastic," continued Dern. For now, that's enough to get us through another night of wondering.
