Years on, Will Smith is still tugging at our heart strings. This time, it's in the trailer for his new film, King Richard, the inspirational and true story of Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus Williams.
Smith plays the sister's undeterred father, who was instrumental in raising Venus, played by Saniyya Sidney and Serena Williams, played by Demi Singleton, who are now, as we know, some of the most influential tennis players in history.

The trailer, which was released just yesterday, follows the girls in their early teens, and their father, loving and driven by a clear vision of their future, Richard has hopes for his daughters that will take Venus and Serena from the streets of Compton, California to tennis courts across the globe. “This world ain’t never had no respect for Richard Williams,” he tells his daughters in the trailer. “But they’re going to respect y’all.” It tells the story of determination, dedication, the power of family, and the power of someone believing in you, and it has cracked our hearts right open!
Reinaldo Marcus Green directed King Richard, from a script by Zach Baylin, with producers Tim White and Trevor White via their Star Thrower Entertainment banner on board, alongside Will Smith under his Westbrook banner. Serena and Venus Williams have been involved in the making of the film, naturally, and have served as executive producers on the project alongside their sister Isha Price. Its other executive producers are James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, Adam Merims, Lynn Harris, Allan Mandelbaum, Jon Mone and Peter Dodd.
King Richard will be released in theatres in the U.S. on November 19th, and will be available to stream on HBO Max for 31 days following its theatrical release. Watch the teaser trailer for the tear-pricking film, below.
