Keira Knightley risks it all in true crime trailer for ‘Boston Strangler’

Boston-killers

We love it when Keira Knightley pops in for an appearance in the screenosphere. It feels like a moment since we've seen her forays and this new film feels like a shift in the tide for the actress. A trailer has just dropped for her new film Boston Strangler. A true crime murder mystery that's been described as She Said meets Zodiac. In the trailer, she looks like the Keira we know and love, but it certainly doesn't sound like her. She plays the reporter, Loretta McLaughlin and in the video we see her speaking to her boss in a Boston twang. Fitting.

The film is based on the newspaper Record American, which broke the story of the Boston Strangler in the 1960s. As the story behind the film goes, along with her colleagues, reporter Jean Cole, McLaughlin challenges the sexism of the era investigating the story at personal risk and uncovering corruption that cast doubt on the identity of the strangler. We hear Knightley asking "How many women have to die before it's a story?"

Who else is involved?

The 20th Century and Hulu film will be written and directed by director and producer Matt RuskinRidley Scott, best known for his iconic films Alien and Blade Runner and more recently House of Gucci, will produce the film.

Knightley will star alongside Carrie Coon who will play Jean Cole. Other cast members include Alessandro Nivola, Chris Cooper, David Dastmalchian, Robert Jon Burke, Morgan Spector and Bill Camp.

There is a trailer up already which you can watch below. Thankfully, we already have a release date and it's sooner than we could have hoped for. Boston Strangler will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ under the Star Banner from March 17.
