Jocelyn Petroni’s Woollahra salon is a haven of relaxation. From her customised facials that make you feel like you’re floating, to the products she swears by, here she shares the knowledge behind her techniques.
The top five most useful products in the salon are …
Bioderma Sensibio H20 makeup remover, (most efficient makeup solvent, from France, one sold every three seconds). Bioderma actually invited me to France to watch this product being made. The science and testing along with scale of manufacture of this product was astounding.
Shemana Face Serum is a lightweight face oil that loves all skin types, even oily. Apply a few drops under your moisturiser for instant hydration and glow.
Ultra MD A2 Anti-Ageing Serum, This product is my secret magic serum for smooth texture, radiance and glow. All brides and anyone wanting to give their skin a natural and non-invasive active boost with visible results should try this.
Chanel Le Vernis nail polish. Chanel’s new collection of pigment-rich colours, combined with the new long-lasting formula, makes this polish the ultimate for on-trend colour selection and longer lasting results.
Ultraceuticals SPF 30+ tint. Ultraceuticals are the masterminds of all the best sunscreens, and the secret is their formulas are lightweight so you don’t feel like you’re wearing sunscreen at all. I like this sheer tint, which conceals imperfections and has a beautiful satin finish. Every facial client walks out of our salon wearing this product.
The product(s) most worth the investment are …
Serums! Serums contain high concentrations of active ingredients, giving the most visible and often immediate results. They are light in texture which gives them the capacity to penetrate the deepest skin layers, so these active ingredients are delivered to their target site. My favourite serum is the Ultra MD A2 Anti-Ageing Serum mentioned above.
My biggest beauty trick / tip is …
Incorporating an oil into your skincare routine will visibly change your skin by promoting optimal skin health. Don’t be afraid of oils – they’re great for all skin types. As a cleanser for oily skin, an oil will draw out impurities; and oil treatments are nourishing for really dry skin types. Oils retain water within the skin preventing trans-epidermal water loss and dehydration, the key solution for youthful radiant skin.
You can add a couple drops of oil to your moisturiser to create a richer cream or even to your foundation for a dewy fresh-faced finish. Use a face oil (on cotton pads) to remove make-up because oil is a better make up solvent than water plus it leaves your skin hydrated and nourished.
I’m currently using coconut oil which is great for face, body, hair, as a cleanser and moisturiser, and digesting two tablespoons a day keeps my skin healthy and hydrated from the inside out.
My favourite career memory / highlight is …
I’ve used Bioderma’s cleanser for years, so it was a career highlight to see how this iconic product is made in the South of France. Another highlight was wandering Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment in Paris, shortly after becoming Chanel’s first Official Manicurist, and I am honoured to continue this role with them today.
My advice to people getting started in the industry is …
Be prepared to work hard! I think it’s important to also figure out where your passion lies and never compromise on quality. I think people appreciate integrity.
Adapt what you love into your treatments to create your own signature style. I actually meditate during my Facial treatments and share that positive energy with my clients to enhance their experience.
