Jil Sander's Fall Winter 2021 collection has arrived, and the collection that we previewed back in March is a loyalist nod to the brands minimalist DNA. Though the Sander brand rarely strays from the blueprint, Fall Winter 2021 feels closely linked to everything we know and love from Jil Sander.
It's all cushy sandals and oversized wool coats. Wardrobe staples that leave you wanting more, coming back again and again. It is our winter dream; roll neck knitwear and single button blazers with inverted collars. Black suit pants saw an update with subversive hook and eye closures and hemline detailing. A straight-cut collarless blazer that can be worn for days on end features, alongside jogger pants, rounded out by small crossbody bags in gray, brown and black.
If there is one thing that Lucie and Luke Meier, creative directors of Jil Sander know, it’s minimalism, and Fall Winter 2021 certainly stokes the fire in our hearts that call to it.
“There is a cliché tied to minimalism that it’s cold, gray, kind of boring, and too non-human, too industrialised,” said Luke Meier in a 2018 interview. “I think that at the core of the Jil Sander brand, there’s this element of emotion of being very simple and stripped down to the bare essentials. That’s what is really the essence of the brand. There isn’t anything superfluous. And so you arrive at a purity. But it’s also very emotional. Achieving that balance is difficult. But when it’s done well, it can be incredible.”
