It feels like people are making films about literally anything at the moment, and if you don't feel the same, perhaps the information that Jerry Seinfeld is making a movie about Pop-Tarts will change your mind.
Deadline has reported that Netflix has given the green light for Seinfeld to direct, star in, and co-produce a comedy film titled Unfrosted, which is centered around the invention of the Pop-Tart. Ok??
"Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness,” Seinfeld told Deadline. “So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.” At least we'll see him in something again! Even if it is purely about prepackaged breakfast pastries.
As mention, the entire script will be based around a bit he did for a recent stand-up routine. In a video segment for The New York Times, Seinfeld deconstructed the joke to make it make sense. It recounted the moment in his childhood when his world was turned upside down by the almost instant breakfast product. “How did they know that there would be a need for a frosted fruit-filled heated rectangle in the same shape as the box it comes in, and with the same nutrition as the box it comes in?” He said in the video.
He has co-written Unfrosted alongside Spike Feresten and Barry Marder, with production said to commence next spring in the US. While we cannot imagine a scenario where we will ever, truly, need a comedy film about Pop-Tarts, if Jerry Seinfeld is involved, we will take it anyway and we will be grateful for it. Will you?
