London-born fashion designer Bella Freud has long had us wrapped up in her signature jumpers - think Je t’aime Jane and Ginsberg is God. She's also behind several short films, perfumes and collaborations with the likes of Kate Moss and Lara Stone. Here, she shares her industry advice, can't-live-without products, and that moment with Vivienne Westwood.

My breakthrough career moment was …
In 2003 I made a film about Beatnik girls waiting for their poet guru to arrive. The tiny collection of clothes were sold in Dan Macmillan's now defunct shop Zoltar the Magnificent. Kate Moss went in and bought the Ginsberg is God jumper and when she wore it, it was a sensation.

The top 5 most useful products backstage / on set are …
I'm not often backstage but my favourite products for anywhere are Charlotte Tilbury's Wonderglow, my YSL eye pencil in very dark brown, Sisley's Global Perfect pore minimizer, Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom for bedraggling over frizzy hair, a bottle of my signature Bella Freud perfume: the amber smell is so grounding and relaxing.



The product most worth the investment is …
It's lovely to have a good face mask, especially when traveling. I like a deeply hydrating one like Sisley's Express Flower Gel Mask.

My biggest beauty trick / tip is …
Face massage, nothing can beat it.

My favourite career memory / highlight is …
I think meeting Vivienne Westwood in a club when I was 17 put my life on the track I have followed ever since, by hook or by crook.

My advice to people getting started in the industry is …
Persevere and do what you love, not what you think people want.
