It’s a hairy subject, but here’s why Jacob Elordi has a beard

It seems the internet is not a fan of Jacob Elordi's beard. Over the weekend, the internet went into an absolute spiral over Jacob Elordi’s latest look — a beard so full and unapologetic it’s practically a statement piece. The man who’s blessed us with iconic performances in Euphoria, Saltburn, Priscilla, Deep Water, and yes, even The Kissing Booth, has stepped into a new role: The Messiah of Facial Hair. One would have to be careful not to follow the said star to Bethlehem. But according to the internet jury, this might be the one performance they’re collectively begging to see… edited down.

Elordi unveiled the now-infamous ginger-tinted beard at the Marrakech International Film Festival over the weekend, pairing it with his signature cascade of chocolate waves — long, luscious, and seemingly styled by a Mediterranean sea breeze. It’s a vibe, no doubt. But not everyone’s on board. Social media, predictably, is split down the middle. Half the crowd is ready to hand him the Best Supporting Beard Oscar, while the other half is all but storming the gates with clippers.

Whether it’s his perfectly unbothered slouch in Euphoria or the way he channels Presley-esque cool in Priscilla, there’s a deliberate energy to everything he does. So maybe this is less of an unintentional moment (though those vibes are undeniable) and more of an intentional pivot. Is it a flex? A character prep? A subtle “don’t box me in” move? What’s certain is that Elordi is playing a long game — literally, if you’re counting the hair. And while the internet debates, he’s probably somewhere laughing, stroking his beard like a cinematic philosopher.

Below, we have listed the 9 theories we think might be behind this full beard.

1. Spent too much time in Byron Bay

Sometime last month it was said Jacob Elordi was spotted walking about in Byron Bay. Taking some time off, a little getaway it seems, perhaps so much so he gave his clean shaven look some time off too.

2. Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's American Psycho

There is no doubt Jacob Elordi with a beard, looks quite a lot like Christian Bale. And while Patrick Bateman in the Mary Harron version of American Psycho was clean shaved, the full bearded-bush might be what Luca Guadagnino is looking for in his Mr Bateman?

3. Nate Jacobs is now 40 in season 3 of Euphoria

We all know Euphoria Season 3 is starting production in January. Maybe so much time has passed since season 2, that there will be a bigger time jump then expected, and Nate Jacob will be 40 years old, hopefully in prison.

4. George Harrison in The Beatles biopic

I think this picture speaks a thousand words, for why I have chosen this conspiracy.

5. #Noshavenovember

This could all be part of a great cause, to participate in the No-Shave November. Raising money for the non-profit organisation that raises awareness and funds for cancer research, education, and prevention.

6. The latest Gillette Ambassador

It would make sense if he was growing out his beard, all to shave it off in a killer Gillette commercial.

7. Father figure

Considering half the internet call him Daddy, maybe it makes sense for him to actually play a father figure role on screen.

8. Noah from Noah's Ark

The might just be a Noah's Ark film in the making, since he does look a bit like he's about to put two of each animal on a boat.

9. He just wanted a beard

On the very high chance he could just want a beard, and in the words of the Lorax we say 'Let it grow!'.
