January 26th marks a divisive date in Australia’s history. For many First Nations people, it marks the violent and traumatic invasion of their land; an event that heralded the beginning of centuries of dispossession, violence, and systemic marginalisation.
In response to this history, Invasion Day rallies are held across the country on January 26th to acknowledge the enduring legacy of colonisation and to call for justice, reconciliation, and the recognition of Indigenous sovereignty. These protests have grown in significance over the years, with participants demanding a change to the national narrative, the acknowledgment of past wrongs, and the advancement of meaningful reforms for Indigenous communities.
If you would like to march in solidarity with First Nations Australians on January 26, below, find our guide to the Invasion Day rallies taking place across the country. For those who are unable to attend, we have also listed a variety of organisations you can donate to in support instead, below.
