As the sun set on a glowing spring day in Sydney, all eyes of the guests who walked through Chez Crix's unassuming doors were firmly on the floor. No, not because of the restaurant's dazzling, rich mahogany wooden floorboards, but because there was no looking past the true star of the night, the buzzy, new sneaker that was on everyone's lips – and adorning everyone's feet too. Three signature, unmissable stripes is all you needed to see to know that the footwear of choice was absolutely set to be the conversation starter.
For those in attendance – and for anyone obsessed with iconic sneakers as much as the RUSSH team are – the adidas Taekwondo will be a familiar silhouette. Minimal in design but agile as ever, the style follows in the footsteps of its adidas siblings – most notably, the Samba – as the most recent member of the family to rise to viral acclaim. As is signature to the brand's values, the silhouette is rooted in originality, having the versatility to be styled with all pieces in your everyday wardrobe – from more feminine silhouettes to full-look outfits that bring the playfulness of adidas' three stripes to life. Judging by how some of the industry's most stylish people were wearing the much-loved redesign, there's no doubt that the Taekwondo is set to be the sneaker of the summer.
As guests, who included model Bella Thomas, Ploy Rida, Yemi Sul and more, filtered into the private dining space, conversation transitioned from footwear to long-awaited catch-ups amongst guests, with ice-cold and flowing champagne setting the tone for the evening to come. An intimate table-setting adorned with flickering red candles and a three-stem vase as a nod to adidas' motif welcomed RUSSH Purists to a fresh, seafood-led meal – the flavours of Chez Crix's theatric creations inspiring and exciting guests with each new dish offering a unique take on classic French cuisine.
In-between courses, the restaurant's hidden corners transformed into a spontaneous photo booth, offering the adidas Taekwondo the centre-stage moment it deserves. A room brimming with creativity, guests brought their personalities to the forefront – unafraid to lean in, express and equally impress.
The night was soundtracked by artists that were true originals, anything from 90s brit pop to ambient dance, from Aphex Twin to Radiohead. As the final dessert spoon slipped into its plate, Born Slippy filled the air, guiding guests back down the stairs until the very end.
