It always takes us by surprise when we see an actor step outside a role they have become synonymous with. If you had asked us to imagine Ilana Glazer as anyone but the hilarious Illana Wexler in the hit-comedy series, Broad City, it may have taken us a while. But her latest role could not be more different. Starring in the upcoming Hulu film False Positive, Glazer switches from struggling University graduate to expectant mother in the thrilling tale that already has us gripped.
Hulu revealed a first look at the chilling horror film this morning; sharing three harrowing images that begin with an almost tranquillised Ilana laying on her back in a hospital gown. The actor plays the upper-middle-class character Lucy; an employee at a boutique marketing firm who is trying desperately to fall pregnant. Her husband, Adrian, portrayed by Justin Theroux, happens to be a doctor – an advantage that gives the struggling couple access to one of the best fertility doctors in the industry. The full synopsis is as follows;
“After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Ilana Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” As if getting pregnant weren’t complicated enough…”

Also on board for False Positive is One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush and actor Gretchen Mol. The Hulu film is being directed by John Lee; based on a story he co-wrote with Alissa Nutting and a script co-authored with Glazer. Speaking on the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket with Marc Malkin, Glazer revealed that, “It’s going to be insane... It’s about the patriarchy…as expressed through medicine.”
After hearing that, there's no question that we'll be tuning in to Hulu for False Positive.
