“I came into music because I thought the presentation of poetry wasn't vibrant enough. So I merged improvised poetry with basic rock chords. That was my original mission.”
The original rock-poet, Patti Smith infused the 70s with a mystic sound driven by a punk as hell attitude and the garb to match. She did things her way. Right from the start. In 2015, 40 years on from the release of her benchmark album, Horses, Smith and her band played a run of shows in New York and L.A. to mark the occasion. A feature documentary preserves the moment, and will be screened as part of the Tribeca Film Festival at the Beacon Theatre in New York on April 23, followed by a live performance by Patti Smith and Her Band.
