Oh, to be an Hermès boy, strolling through the Auguste Perret-designed stone courtyard of the Mobilier National in Paris, clad in cotton poplin and expert tailoring for the Hermès SS22 menswear collection. “An expression of grace, fluidity, and the shifting nature of our lives”, creative director of menswear, Véronique Nichanian, describes the collection, and what an ode the clothing was to the sentiment.

Soothing, fluid, purposeful, and fresh, Hermès SS22 menswear was a reflection of the way so many of us want to show up in the world: breezy, considered, and elegant. With notes on tactility, a live audience and various camera angles to behold, the collection took notes on escapism and exploration.
It was rendered in hues of turquoise, lemon yellow, mint green, and rich chocolates, paired together as a summery daydream of sailing away. Styling notes involved faultless half-tucks of perforated silk blouses, just-cuffed pleated trousers, layered knitwear, printed with florals or rendered in gradient, sherbet-like colours paired with oversized duffel bags, just the way we like it.

There were croc suede jackets and Hermès scarves secured around wrists, Tunisian-collar shirts with zip-up fastenings replacing classic buttons, nautically knotted rope belts secured with shank bit clips, and chunky woven sandals worn alongside classic lace-up sneakers to keep things casual.
Opulence imbued with lightness. A nod to where we are at and where we are going when we dare to dream. Whisked away to a moment in time where an expertly crafted silk button-down and Bermuda shorts are enough for anyone, ice cream in hand, a warm breeze ruffling the fabric on our skin. Transportation to the moments that live in our hearts.
