Gucci has executed some pretty genius collaborations in the past year. First there was the Gucci X Balenciaga hacker project which saw the two iconic brands come together for a special collaboration, then there was Gucci X Adidas which debuted at the brands FW22 show, and was released only a few weeks ago. Now, the brand has graced us with the collaboration of collaborations: a capsule collection with certified Gucci Boy™ himself, Harry Styles.
Entitled, Gucci HA HA HA, the collection reportedly represents the landing place of an inventive two-person journey, the synthesis of a friendship between Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, and Styles. The name choice? Probably derived from the fact that they will both be laughing themselves stupid about how well the collection will be received? I would be. But in seriousness, it's based off of the initials of Harry and Alessandro – which makes a lot more sense – and is also a nod to the pairs messages they have sent to each other for years, often ending them with "hahaha".
While Styles has been Guccified for some time now, it's the superstar's turn to Harry-fy the Gucci universe, with a collection that feels equal parts Styles and Michele. The result, is a conversation between the two, elements of english tailoring is transformed into romantic accents with Prince of Wales check creating double breasted coats finished with the Gucci HA HA HA label. Shirts that button up with mother of pearl are worn with houndstooth pants, while multi-colour knitted vests are offered as layering pieces. Elsewhere, a yellow checked suit features a sheep and cherry print, while another lounge suit features squirrels and love hearts which is presented alongside sartorial suits, treated denim jackets, and velvet suits in irregular hues.
“Harry has an incredible sense of fashion. Observing his ability to combine items of clothing in a way that is out of the ordinary compared to the required standards of taste and common sense and the homogenization of appearance, I came to understand that the styling of a look is a generator of differences and of powers, as are his reactions to the designs I have created for him, which he has always made his own; these reactions restore me with a rush of freedom every time. The idea of working together came to me one day while we were talking on the phone: I proposed creating a “dream wardrobe” with him, starting from those small oddities that come together in childlike visions. We ended up with a mix of aesthetics from 1970s pop and bohemian to the revision of the image of the gentleman in an overturned memory of men’s tailoring,” said Michele in a press release.
The release date of the Gucci HA HA HA collection is yet to be known, but we can guarantee it will probably be sold out by the time we can sing the chorus of As It Was.
