As the warm weather rolls in and half of Australia begins to emerge from lockdown living, heading to a hair salon to get a cut and colour is finally back on the cards. Now that our hair can emerge from its wfh bun and rainy-winter frizz-prevention pony, we are quite literally ready to let our hair down with a fresh and on-trend 'do. Summertime hair is a delight and we're ready to celebrate it in all its glory. And with international fashion weeks on the brain setting the new standard, now is the time that we're looking at the hair trends for the new season.
What styles and colour trend should we be looking to? Well, according to Jaye Edwards of Edwards And Co curls are going strong and here to stay - but this time with a nostalgic flair. "We are definitely seeing a little 90s super model moment with the return of the classic blow dry and big bouncy curls," he said.
As for colour, future-proofing is style the mood of the moment. "I think we will see people continue to embrace effortlessly undone colour this spring. Sun-kissed blondes and brondes seamlessly blended to enhance natural hair colour, as well as effortless styling with curtain bangs still making a huge impact. These future-proof colours have always been at the heart of Edwards And Co, but in the last few months with the uncertainty of COVID-19 we have seen an influx of clients embracing this look."
With this in mind, we're round up the cut and colours that will be in vogue for spring and summer 21-22.
Curtain bangs

This easy-to-wear trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. "Effortless, shaggy layers that frame your face perfectly are here to stay," says Edwards.
They're also great if you're not ready to take the plunge and get a full fringe, and want a gateway style to test the waters. But na word of warning, while this look is more casual. It's not less effort. "These soft, feathered bangs create the perfect lived-in, casual vibe, but be warned, they require the same maintenance as any fringe would, including daily styling and regular trims," says Edwards.
Blunt cuts

Say goodbye to your layers friends, blunt ends are making a comeback. This bold look has structure and offers something different to the feathery looks previous in fashion. Also, this polished style is timelessly chic.
"Regardless of your face shape or hair type, blunt looks, in particular lobs and bobs, are guaranteed to create an elevated and powerful vibe," says Edwards.
Classic blow drys

Get ready to channel your inner Cindy Crawford with bouncy, polished 90s blowout vibes. These are having a moment once again. As forever fans of the 90s looks, we're not complaining.
"It's the glamour alternative to texture beach waves that have dominated Instagram for the past few years. Defined by sky high volume at the root and an unapologetic “done” vibe, this flicky look is the 90s supermodel mood we all need more of in our lives," says Edwards.
Warm brondes

For blondes who can't guarantee they'll have the time for platinum maintenance, this shade is great. It's also a good one for brunettes who want something different but not too drastic.
"Defined by it’s natural and lived-in vibe, this look is effortless and low maintenance, the perfect way to add some pop to your natural colour for spring," says Edwards.
Peachy copper

It's still here and we hope it never leaves. The copper colour trend from last season is still as popular as ever.
"Peachy copper tones are a great way to bring vibrancy back to natural coppers, while still maintaining a natural look. It’s also a great way to warm up your blonde tones, ready for the hot months ahead," says Edwards.
Sun-kissed curls

The sophisticated older sibling to the frosted tip, a sun-kissed bronde colour can add dimension to your curls.
"The perfect way to make your natural curls pop. The key to styling this look is hydration, ensure you are investing in quality products for hydrated curls, free from frizz and defined to perfection," says Edwards.
