Forget the frozen tundra, Canada Goose is setting its sights on a fashion oasis. The iconic parka brand has undergone a stylish metamorphosis with the appointment of Haider Ackermann as its first-ever Creative Director. This isn't just a seasonal fling, CEO Dani Reiss assures us they're in for the long haul.
Ackermann, the avante-garde auteur known for his razor-sharp tailoring and free spirit, brings a shot of espresso to Canada Goose's aesthetic. His influence is poised to elevate the brand's aesthetic, where perhaps the introduction of Ackermann's rich colour palettes and bold patterns will transcend and redefine the boundaries of luxury outerwear. Stating that the opportunity was unexpected, Ackermann was drawn to the brand for its "authentic reputation and drive to stay committed to its purpose. The impact the brand has had on the world around us is meaningful and inspirational”.
What can we expect?
Ackermann's debut collaboration has already been conjured, not for the runway, but he's created a special-edition hoodie for a cause. This purpose-driven project raised funds for Polar Bears International (PBI), a testament to Ackermann's commitment to social responsibility, which perfectly complements Canada Goose's own sustainable ethos. Jane Fonda, the evergreen activist and style icon, fronted this campaign, adding another layer of intrigue to this unlikely alliance. However, as a dedicated activist and educator on environmental and cultural issues, it's quite fitting for Fonda to be the face of this campaign.

His appointment comes at a time when Canada Goose is facing increased competition in the luxury outerwear market. His creative influence is expected to not only elevate the brand's design language but also potentially introduce new product categories beyond their iconic parkas. We can expect Haider Ackermann's first seasonal capsule collection to launch during the Fall/ Winter 2024 season.

We can rest assured that this opportunity will not be taking Ackermann away from couture and his own brand, but rather seeing this as an opportunity for him to speak to a larger audience. And perhaps this will allow for collaborations with celebrities of the likes of Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner and Tilda Swinton for Canada Goose.
