Few bags are considered as perennially classic (or as timelessly beautiful) as Gucci's iconic Jackie bag. The crescent-shaped handbag was originally released by the house in the early 1960s, and shortly thereafter took on the namesake of former first lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis as an homage to how frequently and faithfully she sported her own.
The Jackie bag has remained a popular silhouette in the decades since. Gucci most notably revived and reinterpreted the heritage 1961 version of the Jackie bag for a more contemporary audience in their Fall/Winter 2020 collection, reviving demand and reinforcing the Jackie 1961 bag's status as a must-have item. These days, you'll see it perched on the arm of everyone from Kate Moss to Harry Styles.
For our March Resilience issue, model Anike Hartje took to the studio and the streets in Gucci's Cruise 2022 collection, replete with a myriad of Jackie bag iterations to show exactly why this accessory has stood the test of time and trend. Take a first look at the story below, shot by Joshua Bentley and styled by Hannah Cooper.
