Our beloved Greta Gerwig is writing the screenplay for the ‘Snow White’ live-action adaptation

When Greta Gerwig puts pen to paper our ears immediately prick up. Nothing quite scratches our itch for interesting on screen characters like Gerwig's take on the March sisters or Christine and her mother in Lady Bird. Thankfully, Greta is only just getting started; and just like her reimagining of Barbie, the multi-hyphenate is bringing us another fresh take on an old story, this time with Snow White.

Where normally we would glaze over at the prospect of yet another Disney live-action adaptations of its old animated classics, news of Snow White hits different. After all, we've had time to process it - the film was first announced over five years ago. But it's not just that. When you look at the amount of effort that has gone into securing the right people to steer the Snow White ship, this extended time period makes sense.

(500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb is stationed in the drivers seat, and Greta Gerwig is holding the map, or as it were, the freshly completed script, dictating the direction Snow White is headed. And since all Disney live-action romps have a touch of the musical about them, songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who penned the music for Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land, are onboard to deliver the perfect rendition of Someday My Prince Will Come.

As for the actors? So far only Snow White and the Evil Queen have been cast, and will be played by Rachel Zegler and Gal Godot respectively. Since Snow White is Disney's first full length feature film, released in the pre war haze of 1937, you get the sense that they'll want to get everything just so. And who else but this lineup can deliver on that expectation?
