Givenchy’s first collection by Matthew M. Williams is what club-kid dreams are made of

givenchy

A moment that so many of us have been waiting for: Matthew M. Williams, who was named creative director of luxury French fashion house, Givenchy earlier this year, has dropped a teaser for his spring-summer capsule collection which is officially available to shop today.

Sound the alarm, because just as dance floor restrictions are lifting, Williams has dropped a teaser collection which is both subversive and elevated. Exactly what we'll be wanting to wear from the office to the club and beyond. the capsule consists of womenswear, menswear and accessories, and has set the tone for what's to follow from William's reign at Givenchy - reinvention!

The collection has been curated from Williams first runway debut for Givenchy, and feels as though it takes root in the designers streetwear-focussed background married with the French houses quiet elegance. Taking old silhouettes and putting his own spin on them, the result is feeling like a necessary refresher for the modern age. Classic William's style hardwear hangs off models, as they post in pristine tailoring in images that look as though they've been taken from a 90s style gamer shoot. Narrow, futuristic sunglasses make an appearance, alongside a horn-trimmed baseball cap.

For those who aren't familiar with Williams background, the designer founded 1017 ALYX 9SM in 2015, with nods to the undercurrent of culture and craftsmanship. His garments leant heavily on luxury iterations of streetwear, reimagined in sustainable fabrications. It looks to us, like the brand is taking a nod towards the Ricardo Tisci era, who helmed the brand from 2005-2017, and often played homage to underground culture and streetwear before Clare Waight Keller took over.

With just a small taste of Williams vision for the brand, we won't deny our excitement at what we've seen so far, and look forward to what's to come for the designer.
