The story of Fleetwood Mac is officially heading to our screens. The iconic band confirmed the news via Instagram, writing, "It’s not a rumour. From director Frank Marshall, this Apple Original Films documentary will take you on the epic journey of the generation-defining Fleetwood Mac."
So how does one tell the story of the arguably most iconic band in recent history? All the details about the currently-unnamed project, below.
What will the Fleetwood Mac documentary be about?
The band's behind-the-scenes drama infamously drove their musical output, so it's fair to assume that the origin story behind albums like Rumours, and tracks like Silver Springs, will be explored. The latter, for example, recently went viral on TikTok, when Gen Z discovered it had been written by Stevie Nicks about the end of her passionate relationship with guitarist and singer, Lindsay Buckingham. In testament to the band's enduring relevance, one clip of the duo performing has amassed nearly 2.5 million likes on the app, and was captioned: “Don't just write a song about your ex, make him play lead guitar and sing it right to his face on stage.”
According to early reports, the documentary will draw on previously unseen archival footage, plus new interviews from band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and past interviews of Christine McVie, who died in 2022.
“I am fascinated by how this incredible story of enormous musical achievement came about,” director Marshall said in a statement about the project. “Fleetwood Mac somehow managed to merge their often chaotic and almost operatic personal lives into their own tale in real time, which then became legend. This will be a film about the music and the people who created it."
When will the Fleetwood Mac documentary air?
There's no word yet on when the documentary will air. In the meantime, we'll be listening to their hits on repeat.
