5 gripping films to watch if you loved ‘Don’t Move’

don't move

You know that familiar nightmare of being chased but, despite your best efforts, your legs won’t take you anywhere? That’s exactly the terrifying premise of Netflix's latest hit, Don’t Move.

Like the title suggests, the film follows Iris (Kelsey Asbille) who, while on a hike, must run and hide from a pursuer with murderous intentions. It sounds bad enough, but Iris’ situation is made even more dire when she’s injected with a paralytic agent that essentially causes her body to shut down within minutes. The makings of an actual nightmare, if you ask us.

The film – which charts what its characters are experiencing in real-time – has had audiences on the edge of their seats for its full 85-minute runtime. In fact, despite only landing on Netflix in the last week, it’s already been launched to the top of the streamer’s charts. But what to watch after you’ve already been captivated by Iris’ struggle? Below, the five best thrillers we’re watching after Don’t Move.

Alone (2020)

Another Netflix hit, Alone strikes more than a few similarities to Don't Move. The film follows a young widow who's kidnapped by a murderer, only to escape into the vast wilderness. While she does have full mobility, she's thrust into a similarly gripping  game of cat-and-mouse, as her kidnapper attempts to hunt her down through the dense forest.

The Call (2013)

For a heavy dose of on-screen anticipation, look no further. The Call stars Halle Berry as Jordan, a 911 operator, who receives a call from a kidnapped teenager (played by Abigail Breslin), and is determined to ensure her safe return. But things take a tense turn when Jordan realises the kidnapper is also the man responsible for murdering another teenage caller – while Jordan was on the other end of the phone.

Ready Or Not (2019)

While the overall feel of this film is a little lighter than Don't Move, for the protagonist, the stakes are just as high. Ready Or Not follows Grace (Samara Weaving), who is coerced into an initiation-style game with her husband's family on the night of their wedding. But little does she know, losing to her new in laws will put her life on the line. Bonus points, this film has an all-star cast, including Adam Brody and Andie MacDowell.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Like Don't Move, the premise of A Quiet Place is somewhat of a nightmare. The film stars real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as parents Evelyn and Lee who, like the rest of the world, must live in silence to avoid being killed by mysterious creatures that hunt – and kill – by sound. Still need convincing? A Quiet Place was nominated for an Oscar, and has two follow-up films you can binge after you've devoured the first one.

Bodies, Bodies, Bodies (2022)

Somewhere between a thriller and a comedy, this A24 masterpiece will have you on the edge of your seat for the full film. It stars icons Rachel Sennott, Pete Davidson, Amandla Stenberg, and Myha'la as a group of rich 20-something friends, who plan a party while sheltering from a hurricane at one of their family's mansions. Of course, the group get carried away and, before long, things take a deadly turn.
