Loewe has announced the 30 shortlisted artists for the 2022 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. Each finalist’s work will exhibit at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art from July 1 – July 30.
In 2022, the Craft Prize presents an invigorating selection of works each displaying contemporary updates to centuries-old traditions. The selection of work speaks to humanity’s connection to the natural world and geometry in raw form.
The selected finalists were chosen from more than 3,100 submissions by artisans representing 116 countries and regions. Of the 30 shortlisted artists, there are 15 countries and regions working across a list of mediums including ceramics, woodwork, textiles, leather, basketry, glass and more.
‘Craft is the essence of LOEWE,’ says creative director Jonathan Anderson. ‘As a house, we are about craft in the purest sense of the word. That is where our modernity lies, and it will always be relevant.’
Launched in 2016, The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize was established to celebrate excellence, artistic merit and newness in contemporary craftsmanship. Anderson created the award to acknowledge the importance of craft in today’s society and in recognition of working artists’ talent and vision.
