If there's one hill that I will die on, it's that this decade has signified the return of Nicole Kidman. Sure, the world began to fall in love with the Aussie star again when she landed her coveted role in the hit HBO series, Big Little Lies; but there's no denying that the last year has cemented her place once more as a Hollywood icon. From her gripping portrayal opposite Hugh Grant in The Undoing, to her most recent role in the cultic smash-hit, Nine Perfect Strangers; Kidman is thriving – not just surviving. It comes as no surprise then to hear that she has another project in the works, starring in the Amazon Prime series, Expats.
The upcoming drama series is based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s 2016 novel The Expatriates; which focuses on three different women all from different backgrounds who are living in Hong Kong at the same time. As each woman battles their own heartbreak, struggles and challenges, they are brought together in a way that will chase the course of their lives forever.

What is the Amazon Prime series Expats about?
According to the original novel's synopsis, the story follows; "Mercy, a young Korean American and recent Columbia graduate, is adrift, undone by a terrible incident in her recent past. Hilary, a wealthy housewife, is haunted by her struggle to have a child, something she believes could save her foundering marriage. Meanwhile, Margaret, once a happily married mother of three, questions her maternal identity in the wake of a shattering loss. As each woman struggles with her own demons, their lives collide in ways that have irreversible consequences for them all."
There's no official synopsis for the series as yet, the only small details we have are that; "Expats is the story of an international community whose lives are bound together forever after a sudden family tragedy. It revolves around three women, Mercy, Margaret and Hilary."
It will be interesting to see how closely the upcoming series follows the story of Lee's novel. Stay tuned for more details on this to come.
Who will star in Expats?
As we know, Kidman is taking a lead role in the series as will be portraying the character Margaret. Brian Tee (Chicago Med) will be starring opposite her as her husband Clarke – who has no desire to exchange his expat lifestyle for American suburbia, until he is faced with an impossible choice. Ji-young Yoo has been cast in the role of mercy, but there's no word yet on who will play Hilary.

When will it hit our screens and is there a trailer?
Unfortunately, Expats is still very much in the filming stages; with Kidman taking a brief hiatus to film the Aquaman sequel. We'll be sure to keep you updated once we find out more.
