New dream girl on the block, Golden Globe-winning Emma Corrin isn't slowing down since her eerie breakout role as Princess Diana in The Crown, and this week the announcement has come that she is once again colliding with the zeitgeist by starring in a play entitled Anna X, inspired by New York socialite-cum-con-artist Anna Delvey AKA Anna Sorokin - a Russian-born con artist who scammed New York's high society out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Corrin will be descending upon the West End stage in London for the play, which was leaked by entertainment reporter Baz Bamigboye, which was then confirmed in a story by London Theatre Direct. Premiering at Vault Festival in 2019, Anna X won the Origins Outstanding New Work Award and will make its West End debut later in the year as part of the Harold Pinter Theatre’s RE:EMERGE season.
Anna X was written by Joseph Charlton and directed by Daniel Raggett, who is also working on the new Broadway production of West Side Story and follows a couple, Anna and Ariel who are "immersed in an addictive world of private views, front-row fashion shows, and endless parties” states the log-line. But when the events stop being enough, the couple begins to scramble for social recognition amongst the city’s elite.
All that's left to say is how excited we are to witness Corrin's greatness once again - especially when it's concerning a crossover like Anna Delvey, who is likely shaking in her boots at not receiving royalties for this project. Following her Golden-Globe-winning performance in The Crown, Corrin has also signed on to play Harry Styles third wheel in a queer cop film, which we are equally excited for. All that's left to ask is, how on earth will she replicate Delvey's bizarre German/Russian/American accent? We'll have to wait a few months to find out.
