In the realm of fashion, few personalities have captivated the attention of Gen Z quite like Emma Chamberlain. From being your average VSCO YouTuber to today starring in Calvin Klein and Cartier campaigns, you might be wondering how did she do it?
From the age of 17, she's influenced us to wear high ponytails with colourful scrunchies, to making us fantasise about us too owning a vintage gold Baignoire Cartier watch. In 2017 her first Youtube video was a summer look book and since, her most popular videos consisted of her doing shopping hauls from the dollar store and vlogs about her daily teenage life. Seeing her feel and think the same way an actual teenager would, made her simply relatable and enjoyable.
Growing big on Youtube, in 2018 Chamberlain moved to L.A. where her style changed even further. Experimenting with colours and patterns her style became fun and achievable with her thrifted finds and DIY ensembles. The trend ignited by her that had us all in a chokehold, other than the scrunchy, was the light brown teddy bear jacket. As a personal victim of this trend; it was practical, comfortable, and cute (at the time). But it wasn't till 2019 when Youtube introduced her to Louis Vuitton, where she then become an ambassador, and at the forefront of street wear chic. The thought of someone as relatable as Emma Chamberlain sitting front row at Louis Vuitton fashion week was desirable that someone so relatable could achieve such status. Brands like Calvin Klein, Aritzia, Levi's, and Miu Miu all started to recognise her influence and collaborate with her. This began to push her towards high-fashion where today continues to attend Fashion weeks, collaborate with brands such as Cartier, and land her the grunge/grandpa-esque style she expresses with today.
Her success has given her the opportunity to become the 2024 Met Gala special correspondent for the 4th year in a row. The first two years dressed by Louis Vuitton, and last year by Miu Miu, we wonder who will be dressing her this year?
