Back in 2020, when border restrictions were in place and international travel was quite literally a no-fly zone, it was difficult for upcoming Australian models to earn their stripes. Each season, one of the most exciting things, aside from the new collections, is witnessing emerging Australian talent appear on the runways of some of the most notable luxury brands. And for over two years, this was a greatly missed aspect.
Now, for the Fall Winter 23 season, it feels as though the Australian presence is back during a particularly exciting time for fashion. As the industry gets more and more familiar with including different bodies, ages, and cultural groups in their casting processes, we're able to witness Australian models, emerging and iconic, step into their moments.
From new supers like Julia Nobis, who is a certifiable blue-chip favourite, to those making exclusive comebacks like Abbey Lee Kershaw for Roberto Cavalli and Emma Balfour for Bottega Veneta, and newcomers like Riahn Griffiths – who made it onto Models.com's SS23 Top Newcomers for her breakout season – and first nations model Tarlisa Gaykamangu –who just made an incredible worldwide debut with Bottega Veneta, receiving an outpouring of support and admiration from those watching from home – these are the Australian faces that are a current fixture for Fall Winter 23.
