The ‘RUSSH’ editors share the homewares we’re coveting in December

December is a month for down-time and special moments family and friends – some time to reflect on the year that has passed and rejuvenate with good food, good weather and even better company. We know that there are those who may work in essential jobs (thank you for your service) who may be on call or on the ground over the upcoming holidays. We also know there are many people who may not have the big family gatherings or Christmas parties, and at RUSSH, we believe there are moments to celebrate, big or small. Whether you are hosting your family this year, or simply have plans to do nothing, it's time to celebrate and relax in ones space – even if it's for a fleeting moment.

With that being said, we segue into – the homewares we have been obsessing over this month. Think of pieces to hold the most delicious dishes, to comfortable furnishings and signature scents. We are rounding up the homewares we are coveting for December in preparations for the holiday season. Enjoy.

Like anyone who loves to host a dinner party or two, I’m always pining for more tablescaping pieces, and have been obsessed with the NONNAS GROCER Scented Trio Pack for a while now. I also recently picked up the White Scallop Platter from IN THE ROUNDHOUSE and it’s become my go-to servewear for the last two weeks. I’m also recently obsessed by the Quarters Showroom in NYC, which you can shop online and feels like the most incredibly curated homewares store I’ve come across yet.

I have a love of organic shapes so it is no surprise that this has flowed through to homewares. I’ve been focusing on tablescapes for the upcoming holiday hosting period and have my eye on a few items to spruce up my dining table. This ceramic Drift Tray from Black Blaze has many potential uses and I see it as a serving tray for my chocolate dipped cherries.

For softness, this Fia Frayed Edge Tablecloth from Cultiver is lovely and to set the mood centre stage I would love this amber and lilac GEO URN from FAZEEK next to a few DIPTYQUE Sapin Scented Taper Candles – who would call these GOHAR WORLD Bean candle holders home. Merry Christmas!

It’s been so busy this year and as such, I’ve been lax in the homewares department over the past few months because I’ve barely been at home! But now that the summer season is here and I have more time to enjoy being home, I can see there are some gaps in my home that need filling. Namely I have a sun room that is in dire need of a revamp. I’m thinking a nice chair to relax and read a book in (or scroll TikTok in), and this MCM House chair from the new Sunkiss collection is calling my name. To fill out this room, I’m thinking a small side table to hold trinkets and drinks, and love this fun shaped option from RJ Living. And to top it off, I love incense and need a statement incense holder for this room and this bronze Aesop one, designed by Vogel Studio, is perfect for my little side table (+ the Murasaki incense, my fave). Top off the room with a little plant for the corner and I think it’ll be a great escape within my home.

We currently have Hommey’s vanilla bean striped tablecloth in our dining area and the matching apron feels too cute to ignore, this has been added to my wishlist alongside these Ferm Living candle holders for a festive feeling tablescape. I adore everything Laila Gohar does and these dessert stems are perfect (though I’ll likely need to find a version at Vinnies). Meanwhile, Maison Balzac’s L’Escargot cutlery set has been targeting me relentlessly with ads—they say jump, I say, ‘how high?’ We don’t really need them but they’d add a little fun to our summer table settings (so naturally they are also on the list).

With summer approaching and knowing that I will be Sydney based for the summer, I am so keen to refresh my home for festive gatherings and relaxing reads. It is no surprise to anyone that I am English and somewhat old fashioned so I would love a Wedgwood dinner service, having recently upgraded my cutlery, the partial mish-mash dinner services just aren’t up to scratch. The Gio Platinum Set is speaking to me. I will have to cook some delicious meals for them in the cream Crumble perfect pans. On a less chic but essential note, I’m sick of having to repair my vacuum cleaner with tape, so I would like a new Dyson please, cleanliness is next to godliness afterall…Lastly, though I live in a rental, I don’t think the landlord would mind if I upgraded our light fitting to something rather beautiful like this from Tamsin Johnson.

Dinner party season is well and truly upon us, and I am feverishly on the hunt for pieces to refresh my table. Fresh flowers are my favourite addition to a tablescape, and my friends just gifted me a beautiful vase from Marloe Marloe which is already getting a workout. I also love this set of ceramic bowls by Alex and Trahanas for olives and dips, and this cute mignonette sauce set by Maison Balzac as the perfect addition to serving oysters. Practically speaking, I’ve been lusting after a pasta attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer for ages, and this might be the summer that I finally pull the trigger.

Obsessing over this 1970’s kettle! Devil’s in the details and the spring handle detailing and little star in the spout - aptly from the ‘Stella Collection’ designed by Marina Sgarbi. If you’re sensing a chrome theme it’s because you are, this Elsa Perreti candle snuffer is the creme de la creme and perfect to extinguish my Diptque candle! So lush and smells like the colour green with matcha/moss and cedar essence, would make a gorgeous gift to keep the Christmas tree scent in the house after the tree is gone. The ‘Smoke Glass’ by Joe Colombo has been on my list for a long time now (google this design concept immediately), as has the classic Akari 55a paper lantern by the infamous Noguchi, hoping Santa brings me this!

I’ve taken the plunge and bought myself a pendant light which is maybe the most adult purchase I’ve made to date. The Nelson Saucer Pendant has been popping up on my socials for a while now and it’s the perfect soft fixture to keep my bedroom feeling light and bright.

My David Shrigley love affair has also continued with the “When Life Gives You Lemons” print, and after months of looking I’ve also finally found a desk to fit my art deco space. Last but not lease, something practical - a handheld vacuum. After some deep diving into Reddit threads the Shark ION was by far the winner and will be coming home with me.

The theme of my homeware’s wishlist/shopping list this month is obviously festive. I love to entertain throughout December and into the January break, so I’m slowly accumulating little pieces that will elevate both my home and my hosting offering. My napery was long overdue for a refresh, and I opted for these scallop-silhouetted placemats and napkins from In The Roundhouse. I love that I can use these all year around, and they’re so easy to wash if you’re accident-prone (me, always). I’m also a sucker for a great side plate, and picked up these gorgeous hand-painted pieces from ALEX AND TRAHANAS x The Thinking Traveller as my new dessert plates.

Naturally, I’m scenting my home with the candle of all candles, Diptyque’s 34 boulevard Saint Germain. In my dreams, I’m lighting the limited-edition ‘giant’ size for maximum impact, but even in the large, this is a candle that is unmissable and a fragrance that is unmistakably festive.

Lastly, summer is all about fresh flowers to me, and I’m hoping Santa (*cough, my partner), has read through my wishlist and spotted this incredible Venini Fazzoletto vase. The handcrafted Murano glass design House has recently launched in Australia, which makes it easier to decorate your home with its beautiful pieces.

First things first, I need new glass containers. A few kitchen mishaps have resulted in two of my existing ones breaking and I need to replace them. I buy the IKEA ones with the bamboo lids. I’ve also been wanting a little storage stool for the bathroom and this one from RJ Living is perfect.

Totally unnecessary but… I put these salad servers in one of my Christmas gift guides and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. So, I think I’m going to buy them and maybe a new salad bowl too.
