Come home with the ‘RUSSH’ editors: the homewares we’re living for in September

What makes a house a home? Is it the welcoming scent of baked cookies, fresh bedsheets or a special artwork hung on the wall? At RUSSH, we believe it's an amalgamation of things. It can be as simple as adding a new book to your shelf, trying a new scented candle or switching out the tea towels to freshen up a space.

That being said, we're here to share the homewares we are loving in September – think rugs, appliances and linen, or maybe some new pyjamas. For me, now that we've said sayonara to winter, it's time to step outside and lounge on some new outdoor furniture.

Whether you're looking for the next piece of the puzzle for your home or you simply love anything interiors (join the club), read on for your homewares fix.

Right now, I’m all about the sensory elements of my home – sounds, smells, the general aura of the place. Though it’s definitely an indulgence, I love Byredo’s Bibliothèque Candle, which I was once gifted and have reminisced about ever since its last burn. I keep seeing salad-making TikTok’s in these big wooden bowls, and this Country Road Barossa Salad Bowl is the perfect match. And to add to my collection of rounded-rim ceramics, these Khala serving bowls.

I ran out of one of my Heartwood incense this week so first things first, this month I will be buying more of that. It’s a very unfussy plain sandalwood smell which I find to be very gentle. I’m also topping up on these Teamantra matcha sachets, they’re so convenient.

I definitely don’t need a new set of sets but I’m obsessed with and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. And speaking of linens, when I was browsing the Hommey site this week, I saw they launched pjs. Perfect timing as my favourite pair have just died.

When I renovated my kitchen, I didn’t measure my coffee machine so now it doesn’t fit in the nook I keep it in. I’ve been looking for a new one but can’t find anything that fits. However I saw that KitchenAid just launched some very chic new machines, so I’m going to measure the KF6 machine to see if that will fit. In the same home improvement vein, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t spent far too much time browsing the Technogym website… I often dream of buying one of the treadmills.

I have my eye on two pieces from Dusen Dusen: this fun oven mitt and little egg timer that I spied at an art gallery a few weekends ago. I also can’t stop thinking about this incredible Irene Bayer photograph on 1stDibs, I’m dreaming, but it would look perfect hanging above the chaise we have in our lounge. I, along with half  of Aotearoa, had a few Martino Gamper stools kicking around before making the move to Sydney. These are popular for a reason, they’re so versatile and I’ve been missing them. Good Things Store is bringing in a cocoa colourway, I’d like to get a couple of these for summer. Less exciting but I am in need of a doormat – I love this recycled Putiki number from Design Stuff.

I was chatting with friends the other week about cookware (this is 30) and have decided I need a Le Creuset pot, specifically in a dark red hue. I am also searching for a hall table — I love this vintage burl wood piece from 1st Dibs. I burn a lot of incense, but my current incense holder, while chic, makes a mess. This bronze design from Aesop is functional but beautiful. I can’t not share my favourite Vyrao Vedant incense, either.

I’ve just officially moved into my first place on my own which means I’m realising how many things (mostly appliances) I now need to acquire. I’ve also finally moved over to the dark side and become a coffee drinker and am ready to commit to a big girl machine. After some intensive research I’ve decided that the Breville Oracle Touch is the one for me. I want something simple to use, but a step up from the Aldi pods I’m currently using and this ticks all my boxes.

My new bathroom is an original art deco masterpiece with green and yellow tiles. I’m yet to decide if it’s cute or horrendous, but I’m hoping some fun accessories will help to soften it a little. These Cultiver Towels are my safe option, whilst these Sage x Clare ones give more of a fun vibe. I’m yet to decide so any help in choosing would be much appreciated.

Lastly, I saw this KitchenAid Stand Mixer on Instagram the other day and honestly it’s enough to make me want to bake. The wooden bowl matches my new floorboards perfectly and will add some much needed warmth to my kitchen bench.

I fear there will be an intervention as my addiction to Lawsons seems to be increasing as I search for perfect homewares and strange paraphernalia, however, there are some very necessary things on my list right now. I need a bed and I would like it to be this Pompeii Bed, however, that is very aspirational, more grounded in reality is some pink rosewater sheets for when I have very girly guests come to stay. The record player needs something chic to sit on and take pride of place in so I’ve been wishlisting this unit from USM. We also need more egg cups, and these are perfect.

I've been filling my house with rugs and I'm in need of a neutral for my living room. This Sandringham Cameo Floor Rug from BAYA looks perfect, and I love that it's a dense pile and super soft. Moving outdoors, one perk of having a house in a rural area is the size of my block is generous, therefore I have a rather large yard to work with. My entertaining area out the back is in dire need of some chic outdoor furniture and I've been browsing MCM's outdoor offerings for some time now. Both the Outdoor Douglas Modular and Sofa would be stunning – how is outdoor furniture this beautiful? While I'm at it I'll throw in the Outdoor Jean De Round Coffee Table for good measure.

A couple of restocks are also on my list this month. The first being my Aesop Murasaki Aromatique Incense and the second, A Place in Paris candle from Glasshouse – this candle was discontinued and has since been released from 'The Vault'. Adding to cart right now!
