Come home with the ‘RUSSH’ editors: the homewares we’re living for in August

Homewares are always a conversation starter in the RUSSH office. Furniture, cutlery, signature scents, appliances and everything in between. And what better time to share our must have pieces than the last month of winter? It's time to spruce up the place. Without further ado, here are the homewares on our shopping list in August.

My home wishlist is never-ending; check my saved tabs—they border on concerning. We do genuinely need a rug. I love everything Armadillo and Nodi create, and I have a growing Facebook Marketplace list of vintage Turkish carpets. As for things we don’t need but I plan on purchasing, this perfect little blue mug by HAY and this collection of candles by Nonna’s Grocer are top of the list. I need to stock up on these Aēsop bathroom drops (IYKYK), and when I’m ready to bite the bullet, this blender is coming home with me. We don’t need this, nor will I be purchasing it anytime soon, but forever on the delusional wishlist is Hans J. Wegner’s Flag Halyard Chair.

There are so many things in my homewares wishlist this month. Practically, I need a new immersion blender. My current one is on its last legs and I think this cordless iteration from Kitchenaid will be the perfect replacement. I’m also extremely tempted by the new Le Creuset Harvest collection. I am a big Halloween devotee and I love to get my pumpkin themed decorations out each October, so I feel like the Pumpkin casserole dish is a worthwhile addition. I’m also dreaming about this Ligne Roset armchair. My lounge is slowly creeping up to 10 years old, so I will be time to replace it in the near future and a set of these would be perfect. Finally, I want a soap dish for the olive soaps I picked up when I was in Marseille. I love this dark stone piece from R.J. Living.

This month I finally splurged on the Story Bookcase by Design Within Reach, which is my home’s newest pride and joy. I also just bought a set of HAY Barro Plates in white, which have found their way into every mealtime since. I’m eyeing off all the extra bits to add to my Our Place pot and pan collection – like the Fry Deck and these adorable colour-coordinated Hot Grips

All I can think about right now is coffee. Blends of coffee, coffee mugs, and a new coffee machine. Breville has just launched their new Oracle® Jet coffee machine and when I tell you I need it… The sea salt colourway is perfect for my kitchen.

And speaking of coffee mugs, these amber Wave Mugs from FAZEEK are a bit of me. I also love their colourful teaspoons.

The furniture piece I have been loving this month is the Flow Sideboard from RJ Living’s new Warm Abode collection. I really like the profile of the rounded doors and circular legs seem to be a recurring theme in my house (Sarah Ellison’s Yoko Bed sets the tone).

Lastly, I’m in need of a restock of my Ode Studio candle. The Balm scent is divine.

Most of my spare time is spent dreaming of furniture and homewares at the moment and I have little to no shame about it. With the arctic winds still somehow trying to invade my house, I’d love to cover the less than desirable tiles with a rug to end all rugs, this Etoile Rug from Armadillo is singing to me like a siren. I am also in dire need of a wardrobe which proves to be nigh on impossible to find, but were I to come into some inheritance from a long lost Aunt, I would be going after this original Bauhas number by Rudolf Slezak, perhaps with this incredible Astrée Floor Lamp by Ligne Roset next to it, illuminating and elevating my wardrobe content. As soup season continues, the fact that this LeCreuset cast iron set is on sale is quite dangerous…

A hop away from Spring, I am excited for the season to change. I recently planted seeds of herbs and tomatoes on my balcony, hoping for a bountiful reward as the weeks grow warmer. I’d love to update things inside, too. I love this chair from Clo Studios – it’s gorgeous and would be perfect to read in but (being in touch with reality), would also serve a purpose in my bedroom so that the odd garment (or 10) doesn’t end up on the floor. I recently tried a coffee from the Breville Oracle Jet and was instantly drawn to its sleek ability to create amazing coffee at home. I am loving having friends and family over for brunch and this is the tool I need when my little Alessi can’t quite handle the orders. I love a new set of sheets and am loving Sutram’s offering - the refreshing colour palette and the fact that you can build your own set is drawing me in. Lastly, I’d love some new art (as always) and this print by the iconic Martin Sharpe of a yellow moon which screams Australian summer is on my mind. This one is from one of my favourite places to get lost in, 50 60 70 in Elizabeth Bay.

I’m a methodist when it comes to the house and hearth. And that method is a delusional one. Now that that’s out of the way, I’m ready to plunker down with all of these illusionary picks I’d love to furnish my new home with. This travertine dining table from Bazaa is my pick for my currently barren dining room. A shaggy arm chair for my living quarters is next, and I want a Hommey faux fur robe in marshmallow to match. Because of course, the curtains should match the drapes. To close, a Marseille Memoir hand soap set from Glass House for all entertaining and cleansing purposes. Honey, we’re home.

I need a new side table so most of my homewares research has been in that territory this month. I absolutely adore this Glas Italia side table from Space Furniture or this Ann Demeulemeester X Serax table from SSENSE. Both on the higher end of my budget but I’m a buy it once and buy it well kind of a shopper, I would rather pay more for quality and keep it forever. I have also loved this chair and stool by Frank Gehry for Vitra since I saw it in Indecent Proposal (lol) and I think they would look great in my office. We also just dropped a new RUSSH HOME issue, and I’m obsessed. I have it on my coffee table, does that count as homewares?

As someone who has actively disliked green for most of my life it’s suddenly become my favourite colour. Should we be blaming Charli XCX and the Brat cover? Probably. Regardless I’m rolling with it for my homewares must haves for this month.

Firstly this Dinosaur Designs resin bowl from their Moss Collection, preferably styled with the matching long stone servers. I’ve also had my eye on a Bed Threads sheets set for a while now, and there’s something about this specific olive green set that tickles my brain.

Glasshouse candles are always very high on my list, but I’m about to move into a new space which means I can finally justify it. What’s a new space without a new fragrance to make it feel like home? Lastly, some new tableware and I’ve been lusting over bubble plates. These Country Road ones fit the brief and will be coming home with me this month.

I need to rip up my carpet and polish the floorboards underneath, but it’s a huge task so a rug feels like a nice compromise in the interim. The Armadillo Pebble rug in Whippet is the perfect shade, and I like the low pile. Bed Threads just introduced these heavy linen bedspreads and I feel they’d give my bedroom a really nice hotel-adjacent feeling (and isn’t that always the goal). I also need a kettle – boring – but love this stainless steel one from KitchenAid. I’ve always wanted a Seletti mirror too, specifically this one listed on 1stdibs. Tempting…
