The intersection between high fashion and high art can feel porous and imperceptible at times. Where does one art form end and the other begin? Where do they bleed into one another? Do those lines in between exist at all?
In the Parisian ateliers of Dior, fashion and art feel as if they are painted with the same brushstroke. Each garment from the Maison is a testament to the skilled hands of its artisanal makers, and to the distinct vision of the House's womenswear director – the inimitable Maria Grazia Chiuri.
In Chiuri's Spring Summer 2024 collection for Dior, wispy monochromatic garments evoke a beguiling, incantatory aesthetic. The collection itself an ode to the collective wisdom and memory of womankind, it pulls details from the many nuanced iterations of feminine dressing; ballet flats, full skirts, tailored shirting, sharp shoulders and floor-grazing, bohemian lace.
Chiuri's hardworking silhouettes are a testament to the House's pioneering feminist vision – one that spans nearly eight decades of its storied history, since the days of its eponymous founder who became the bellwether of modern feminine dressing through his heralded post-war 'New Look'.
For RUSSH, model Riahn Griffiths dons the Dior SS24 collection, giving shape to its vision of contemporary femininity and artisanal savoire-faire. Photographed by Sam Armstrong and styled by Hannah Cooper, Griffiths stands among the vestiges of an exhibition space, reconciling with the so-called frivolity of fashion, the demands of feminism, and the gravitas of art.
