Dior is a house unique in the way it offers intimate, insider looks into its most iconic pieces.
The latest creation in the spotlight is the House's iconic Lady D-Lite bag.
For the European winter season, this timeless bag has been reimagined in a velvet design. A plush and luxurious fabric finished with a unique 3D embroidery technique highlighting the Cannage pattern.
The new design comes courtesy of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri who created this version of the Lady D-Lite bag to fit with Autumn-Winter 2020-2021. Textural and soft, this iteration features a tone-on-tone motif in deeper, sleepy shades. The result is a timeless and elegant collectible to love for years to come.
Of course, the bag is made all the more special when we see the level of detail and precision involved in its design and creation. Dior has release a video of the 'savoir-faire' or making of video to celebrate this unique and special design.
Watch the video below to experience the craftsmanship of the Dior Lady D-Lite bag.
In the video, we see the design process from beginning to end. From the moment pen touches paper to sketch this bag, right to the point where the final clasps is added and fastened.
Dior's ateliers begin by drawing a blue print of the final design. We then see how a special technique is used to stitch the "Christian Dior" motif and how the embroidery is finished in a way that creates the textural effect that makes this piece special.
The fabrics are cut by hand and the body and handle are constructed with expert precision. The gold 'Christian Dior' monograming is gently pressed onto a leather plate, which is then fixed into place on what will be the inside of the bag. Once the body is stitched together, all the finishing touches, like the gold hardware, are added individually by the ateliers.
Finally, the Dior signature charms are added to the handle. The crowing jewels of this timeless piece.
